This lidded jug with a sculpted spout, wishbone handle, and relief grapevine motif applied to the body is an example of Böttger “Blanc de Chine” white porcelain – one of the first types of porcelain produced in Europe. J. F. Böttger discovered this porcelain technique sometime before 1714 and up until his death in 1719, most of the porcelain he produced was left undecorated.
